Stylized Sword Slashes

An effect created in Unity3D as part of a project to create one particle effect per day.
The goal was to create a highly stylized anime-inspired sword slash combo effect.

A disc shaped mesh with a couple of simple textures set to additive
The same disc mesh, but with an opaque black shader and set to draw “underneath” the previous one for added contrast
A series of cascading sparks play throughout the duration of the effect
A similar setup is used for the flames
Same as the flames but with a black smoke shader used this time for added contrast
The hit effect has a single bright glow at the impact point
Two layers of sparks used for the hit effect: one omnidirectional burst, and one directional spray.
A single long particle is used for the slashing motion
A simple handpainted image used to create the burst effect for the impact
